About The Artist
Monique Santander is a Chilean-American from Santiago who established her studio in Solana Beach in 2016. Monique came to the United States in 1979 And receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Parson School,of Design in New York. Her expertise in designing prints and fabrics for major manufacturers and retailers of men’s and women’s Apparel was acknowledged with international acclaim. She was involved with extensive international textile design and sales world wide. This artist’s abstract art is known internationally for its expression of color, form and movement. Ms. Santander Has exhibited in Chile, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Canada and at various galleries in Miami Beach, Manhattan as well as throughout the Hamptons.
Monique is motivated by complete freedom of expression, Using her emotions as a guide. Her water colors display a sensitivity of tone and grace of rhythm. Her acrylics on canvasare much harsher in color, and include bravura handling of the brush. The works are pleasing without abandoning her individuality of abstract imagery. Through mixed-media, she makes her personal statement on canvas expressing her reactions to a variety of subjects within the ever interesting tapestry of life. She has expanded her work to include oils and collages. Compositions originate from the union of order and chaos. They are absolutely free and resist being defined in concrete reality. The uniqueness of her work lies in its spontaneity and whimsy. The seed of energy are release as storms, wild spirals and very exciting whirlwinds of color. The work expresses delirium; intense colors reflected in unearthly shapes and microcosmic landscapes.
Her figurative piece of the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center was chosen as a Playbill cover for the 2006 Season & for numerous postcards & posters. Four pieces of this artist work were also featured at the ‘Art at the Aspatuck” 2007 Summer Gala sponsored by the Miller Foundation that benefited ‘New Linkages’ In May, 2008 Monique was honored to have a One Woman show at The United Nations Plaza Art Gallery of the Consulate General of Chile in New York…..a huge success.It was truly a great honor to have had her artistic talents recognized by her home country consulate She was selected to participate in the Bienal Celebrating Chile 200 years
